Legal performance "On Property Rights or how to appropriate jewelry, chair, Yorkshire Terrier and put them into one file" by Alevtina Kakhidze together with LAW NET
December 8 - January 5, 2020
Did you know that when receiving a work of art as a gift, in order to secure your rights to it, it is necessary to draw up a gift agreement? And in what case you have to pay taxes for this gift?
Curatorial project of Anna Morozova, which presents legal documents and art works in one space. The basis for the exhibition was an online performance by Alevtina Kakhidze and Law Net, which lasted about two months under the tag #OnPropertyRights (#ПроМайновіПрава) on Facebook.
The gallery of the Korners Auction House presents 9 legal cases, some of which are quite unique, such as the adaptation of Maria Prymachenko's works by Alevtina Kakhidze, and the display of a work commissioned by Vogue fashion magazine. Everyone will be able to understand the legal regulations for the transfer and receipt of works of art, which is a new type of social relations. Donation, purchase, or license agreements represent the "legal diversity" at the level of artistic gestures.
The event spots the side of art that is usually silenced. Within the frame of the project, agreements on rights and responsibilities concluded between artists and owners highlight the fragility of the art and expose the nuances that a lawyer anticipates in order to prevent authors, collectors and potential owners from encountering them.
The exhibition will also have a practical component – visitors will be able to learn the templates of agreements developed by the legal company Law Net, and review the descriptions of unique legal cases. All the legal cases will be "illustrated" by the works of conceptual artist Alevtina Kakhidze, who has been working in the art field for over 20 years.
