In the visual program, we tried to present the most significant phenomena of visual art of Sloboda Ukraine, which according to the curators widely depicts the issues of the region and its self-awareness. The accompanying projects were chosen by Kharkiv co-curators and were designed to expand the idea of the longevity of the artistic tradition and the development of well-known practices – including Kharkiv School of Photography and Graphic Design.
The program featured more than 150 works of painting, graphics, sculpture, installations, photography and video art. The works were provided by the directorate of exhibitions of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Pshenychny Central State Film and Photo Archive of Ukraine, Kharkiv Municipal Gallery, VOVATANYA (Kharkiv) and Artsvit (Dnipro) galleries, families of collectors – the Hrynyovs, Eremenkos, Umanskys, Iryna Bakhchanyan, Institution of Unstable Thoughts, Stedley Art Foundation and authors of works
The experience of team work on the program was important, and it was gained by our permanent curators of the visual program (Oksana Barshynova, Dmytro Golets – Kyiv) together with Kharkiv colleagues (Tetyana Tumasyan, Natalia Ivanova, Anastasia Leonova, Borys Filonenko).
